15mins into jogging I get upper right abdominal pain. Anyone experienced something similar?
Question:
Answers:
That is a common occurence among runners. Your abdominal muscles as well as lower back muscles are used in concert with your legs and arms during running. So try to improve your muscular conditioning in those areas. Core strengthening exercises are a good start. Also you may want ot have an experienced runner observe your form. Believe it or not running is not as simple as lacing up your shoes and taking off down the road. Incorrect running posture can cause pain and injury. Next check your shoes. you may not have the right type of shoes for your feet. You may need shoes for stability control, motion control or impact cushioning. Finally, hydrate. Drink 16 to 20 ounces of water at intervals leading up to your run and then 8 to 10 ounces every 15 minutes during. Afterwards, you should drink 16 to 20 ounces for every pound of weight lost (sweat). You many lose 2 pounds in water weight, which is replaced by 32 to 40 ounces of water.
I do - in my case it's due to cramping/dehydration. I eat fruit (orange, banana, or apple) an hour before running, and hydrate until I start. If it's hot, I'll carry water or a sports drink with me.
